MARCH 30, 2023 – Last night, Global Luxury beauty brand Sulwhasoo hosted a celebration at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s iconic Temple of Dendur, kicking off its partnership with the Museum, co-hosted by Sulwhasoo’s global ambassadors: K-pop icon Rosé from BLACKPINK, Academy Award ®-winning actress Yuh-jung Youn, and prominent Chinese actress Jia Song.
The festive celebration reflected Sulwhasoo and The Met’s shared appreciation for the power of art and heritage.
Upon arrival at the Museum, guests traveled through the amber-lit Great Hall and into the iconic Temple of Dendur, which was transformed into an intimate lounge complete with a dining area, DJ booth, dance floor, and photo moments. The dining experience for the evening was designed to reinterpret Korean heritage in a modern way, featuring ginseng-infused cocktails from Award-winning mixologist Leo Seo and a custom dinner menu designed by Atomix Michelin-starred Chef, Junghyun Park.
The event featured live performances from a range of talents connected through their Korean heritage. Grammy Award Winning artist Anderson .Paak, who is half Korean on his mother’s side, headlined the after party which also saw a performance from Ambiguous Dance Company, a group known for the “undefinable and ambiguous” characteristics of their dance style, drawing inspiration from Korean culture to create their unique performance of sound and movement. Guests also enjoyed live music from DJ Mona Matsuoka.
Sulwhasoo also premiered their latest brand film titled “I Am Ginseng,” as well as a film showcasing Sulwhasoo’s new global ambassador, actress Tilda Swinton. These films capture the essence of the brand’s purpose: to create a world of beauty powered by art and heritage. As Sulwhasoo looks to build the foundation of this next chapter, all the while firmly rooted in its heritage - these films showcase the brand’s commitment to its legacy. Through its use of ginseng and other natural ingredients, Sulwhasoo has created unique and powerful skincare lines that honor the rich cultural tradition of Korea.
Notable guests in attendance included: musical artist Charli XCX, actress Ashley Park (Emily In Paris), actor Paul Forman (Emily in Paris), actress Britt Lower (Severance), actor Tramell Tillman (Severance), musical artist FERG, TV personality Antoni Porowski, actress Katerina Tannenbaum (Just Like That), models Precious Lee, Georgia Fowler and Paloma Elsesser, and ballet dancer Violetta Komyshan.
The year-long partnership between Sulwhasoo and The Met supports a range of Museum programs and activities aimed at innovating the ways audiences engage with and celebrate global heritage. Sulwhasoo’s sponsorship will help realize dynamic programs, including The Met’s Women and the Critical Eye panel discussion and reception on April 13, 2023. This annual event cultivates connoisseurship in women who have a keen interest in the art world, offering participants unparalleled access to world-renowned curators, collectors, and contemporary artists.
