Amorepacific NBRI(New Beauty Research Initiative) hosted the "Skin Longevity Symposium" at WSA in New York City, US. During this event, Amorepacific unveiled the latest research results for the company's exclusively developed ingredients including GinsenomicsTM and LymphanaxTM as well as RE.D FlavonoidTM. They presented the mechanism and clinical benefits of each ingredient to identify their role in skin longevity from a more developed perspective.
Professor Sewon Kang from the Department of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine delivered a keynote speech, pointing out that the skin is a powerful model for studying human aging, revealing its close connection to systemic longevity pathways. Age-related changes in skin cells mirror those in other organs, positioning the skin as both a target and biomarker in systemic inflammatory signaling. Suggesting that skin has become something more than just an indicator of external beauty, he highlighted the concept of skin longevity based on the view that skin is an extension of overall health and wellness.
From the perspective of inflammaging—a process wherein chronic inflammations accelerate skin aging—the research results clarify how inflammation-induced aging affects actual skin conditions.
According to Aiden Park, director of the Amorepacific R&I Center, Amorepacific's researchers used an integrated aging analysis system to look into both intrinsic and extrinsic causes of inflammation induced-aging including UV exposure and found out that inflammations accelerate skin aging. To address this inflammation-aging connection, Amorepacific's researchers then focused on finding an effective intervention. They proved that GinsenomicsTM—a patented ingredient created by concentrating the rare amount of anti-aging ingredient in ginseng by 6,000 times to maximize skin's absorption capabilities thanks to Amorepacific's Bioconversion Technology—facilitates a mechanism to inhibit negative biological responses and restore the natural functions of the epidermis. It also helps preserve the dermal structure by preventing the breakdown of oxytalan fibers, which are crucial for maintaining dermal integrity.
Additionally, Amorepacific's research team collaborated with Professor Martin Prince Alphonse from the Department of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins to detail the anti-inflammatory and immune-regulating properties of Panax Ginseng Root Extract1, an ingredient derived from 500 hours of natural ginseng fermentation. Professor Alphonse explained that Panax Ginseng Root Extract supports the skin's immune balance, which can be disrupted by environmental factors like fine dust, and helps promote healthier aging by positively influencing key genes related to the aging process. These findings position Panax Ginseng Root Extract as a next-generation ingredient that protects skin from external stressors while enhancing its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging defenses.
Lastly, Professor Anna Lien-Lun Chien, also from the Department of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins, discussed the anti-aging effects of Camellia Bioflavonoid2, an ingredient extracted from Camellia seeds. Camellia Bioflavonoid has been shown to reverse the decline of aging skin cells and exhibit anti-aging properties by inducing the production of collagen fiber to increase the skin's thickness and elasticity. A recent clinical study demonstrates that Camellia Bioflavonoid significantly improves multiple signs of photoaging. In a 24-week trial involving 44 participants, topical application of Camellia Bioflavonoid (0.1%) on the face and neck led to marked improvements in fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture, luminosity, and hyperpigmentation compared to placebo. Notably, improvements in skin texture and luminosity were observed by as early as eight weeks. These findings suggest Camellia Bioflavonoid is a well-tolerated and effective option for combating visible signs of skin aging.
In December 2022, Amorepacific launched the NBRI (New Beauty Research Initiative) joint research program with the Department of Dermatology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for the study of skin longevity. Studies of this joint research program have demonstrated the efficacy of Amorepacific's exclusively developed ingredients for skin longevity, which are also incorporated into product development for Amorepacific's iconic skincare brand Sulwhasoo. The partnership showcases Amorepacific's commitment to continuous innovation in skin science technology, helping customers achieve graceful aging and beauty. Moving forward, Amorepacific will continue to leverage its latest research findings to further enhance its skin longevity solutions for customers.
