The Birth of New Green Tea Varieties, Jangwon No. 2 and Jangwon No. 3, After 20 Years of Research
When we think of 'green tea,' the first image that comes to mind is often a warm cup of tea. Since humans first began drinking green tea around 2,700 BC, throughout its 5,000-year history, green tea has evolved with cultivation, processing, and even breed improvements tailored to uniform taste preferences (flavor, aroma, color, etc.) centered on drinking tea. Consequently, green tea varieties with enhanced functionality were naturally eliminated due to their lack of competitive appeal, ultimately destroying the diversity of green tea varieties.
As the only global beauty company owning tea fields, Amorepacific Group has strived to restore and develop new varieties of green tea with excellent potential value not only for drinking but also as cosmetic ingredients. While creating a new green tea variety typically takes 20 to 30 years, Amorepacific Group, through numerous experiments and research since the 2000s, has developed new varieties, Jangwon No. 2 and Jangwon No. 3, with 1.5 to 2 times stronger amino acid (moisturizing function) and catechin (antioxidant and anti-aging function) content compared to the common green tea variety (Yabukita). In 2018, these two varieties were used as core ingredients in Amorepacific and innisfree brand products, respectively, proving the value of new green tea varieties and contributing to preserving green tea variety diversity.
Beauty Found in Beauty Ginseng
Amorepacific Group has focused on ginseng, particularly Korean ginseng, grown in our land. We aim for ginseng production that maintains sustainable soil environments, coexists with local communities, and considers customer safety. To secure optimal ginseng for cosmetics, Amorepacific Group has established a network with domestic ginseng farmers and introduced a contract cultivation system. This has secured a stable ginseng supply system while contributing to stable income generation for local ginseng farmers. Additionally, to obtain ginseng that customers can use confidently, we have established the AP Promise ginseng management process, thoroughly managing all stages from ginseng cultivation to harvest and management. Furthermore, we are researching the roots, which have been mainly utilized, and other parts of ginseng to discover new efficacies and values.
